Love Blossoms at 83 for Tui Vuda

Fiji Times News

Tui Vuda and new wife exchange wedding vows
TUI Vuda Ratu Eparama Kitione Tavaiqia, 83, achieved yet another milestone yesterday when he wed 63-year-old Adi Senitiki Lewatuninamoli Nava at Viseisei village yesterday.

Just one year after his traditional installation, Ratu Eparama stood in front of his people and exchanged vows with Adi Senitiki of Namoli.

People from all walks of life gathered at the village to witness this unique occasion. Asaeli Kalo, a spokesman of the tokatoka Nakelo from which the chief hails from, said the wedding was significant because the chief now had a companion.

Mr Kalo said a woman played a huge role and contributed greatly to the wellbeing of the family and the vanua.

"We, the people of Vuda, are so happy to see the Tui Vuda marrying his new wife," he said. "She will be supporting the Tui Vuda in his role." Mr Kalo said the people of Vuda would always be ready to assist the new couple. Vilive Ravouvou, of Namoli, echoed similar sentiments, saying the people of Vidilo were happy with the marriage. "Vuda and Vidilo are traditionally related and we are so happy that this marriage has renewed our relationship," he said.

Mr Ravouvou also encouraged his cousin, Adi Senitiki, to be loyal to her husband. Adi Senitiki is the daughter of Wainikiti Munadra of Lawaki and Ratu Joji Nava of Namoli.

Ratu Eparama has been left a widower in all of his past three marriages.
