Fiji Times News

by Repeka Nasiko

THE construction of Fiji's first casino will benefit the people of Nadi, says Tui Nadi Ratu Sailosi Dawai.

The $290million casino project on Denarau Island by US company One Hundred Sands Limited began with a ground breaking ceremony last Thursday.

The land on which the five-star luxury casino resort will be built belongs to the people of the Navatulevu clan from Narewa Village.

Ratu Sailosi said this new development would not only benefit the people of Narewa, but also the district of Nadi and the 14 provinces in Fiji.

Construction work is expected to create 900 jobs and another 700 once the casino, resort and convention centre are completed in September next year.

Ratu Sailosi said many landowners were unemployed and were not educated. He said the partnership with One Hundred Sands Limited would provide jobs and education.
